what is 3 times negative 5 over 6 squared?
You mean this?
3 x (-5/6) ?
-15/6 =-2 1/2
You can work this out, remember the most important thing with maths is to 'break the problem down'.
You need to turn something that looks like...
3 x (-5 / 62)
... into more manageable chunks. Start with 6 squared, turn that into something that we can divide by. Remember that any number squared is multiplied by itself e.g. 12 = 1x1, 22 = 2x2, 32 = 3x3
62 = 6 x 6 = 36
Now you are left with
3 x (-5 / 36)
remember when you multiply fractions by whole numbers you only times the top number
3 x -5/36 = -15/36
now you can type -15/36 into the calculator
or you can do it by hand
