Find the axis of symmetry for the following function. f(x) = -2x2 – 4x

-2x^2 - 4x

 

Note.....this parabola has real roots .....and we can solve this by finding these roots

 

-2x^2 - 4x  = 0

 

-2x(x + 2)  = 0     so      x = 0   is a root and so is  x = -2 

 

The axis of symmetry will be  half-way between these at x = - 1
