4*2-((-1)to the 3rd -3) to the third = ?

 

I am never sure whether a power of a third means 'to the power of 3' or to the 'power of 1/3'

After all, if you occupy the third spot in a queue you are number 3 in the queue.

 

 

\(4*2-((-1)^3-3) ^3 \\ 8-(-1-3) ^3 \\ 8-(-4) ^3 \\ 8-\;-64 \\ 72 \)

 

OR

 

\(4*2-((-1)^{1/3} -3)^{1/3}\\ =4*2-(-1 -3)^{1/3}\\ =4*2-(-4)^{1/3}\\ =8-(-\sqrt[3]{4})\\ =8\;+\;\sqrt[3]{4}\\ \mbox{This is the only REAL solution but there are other complex solutions as well} \)
