Peyton and Tanner were lifting a large boulder and relocating it within their property. Peyton is pushing
the boulder with a force of 110 newtons at an angle of 55° with respect to the positive x-axis. Tanner is
pulling the boulder with a force of 165 newtons at an angle of 42° with respect to the positive x-axis.
Find the magnitude and direction (with respect to the positive x-axis) of the resultant force.
I got 86.249 for the magnitude and 133.5 for the direction.
Thanks if anyone solves this :) (btw I'm sure there are other ways to do this but I solved it using trig)
Resultant x - axis force is
110 cos 55 + 165 cos 42 = x component
y components
110 sin 55 + 165 sin 42 = y component
Total magnitude will be sqrt ( y component2 + x component2 ) (Pythagorean theorem)
angle of the force will be arctan ( y component / x component)
Resultant x - axis force is
110 cos 55 + 165 cos 42 = x component
y components
110 sin 55 + 165 sin 42 = y component
