A compound is made up of various elements totaling 80 ounces. If the total amount of lead in the compound weighs 15 ounces, what percent of the compound is made up of lead? I f necessary, round your answer to the nearest hundreth of a percent.
I'm not sure how to set up my equation!
Not a proportion...just a fraction....so we have.....
(15 ounces of lead)/(80 total ounces) = 3/16 = .1875 or 18.75%
This will be put into a fraction, like this:
15/80
From here, use long division. This would be easy to demonstrate if I had some paper, but I'll just show you the answer:
$${\frac{{\mathtt{15}}}{{\mathtt{80}}}} = {\frac{{\mathtt{3}}}{{\mathtt{16}}}} = {\mathtt{0.187\: \!5}}$$
From here, round to the nearest hundreth.
0.1875-->0.19
19%
