I would like to know the process for finding this answer. I do know the method is order of operations-- utilizing PEMDAS, however I'm slightly confused with the parentheses part of this equation. Do I go in order or divide first in the parentheses?
$${\mathtt{5}}{\mathtt{\,\small\textbf+\,}}{\mathtt{3}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}\left({\mathtt{2}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\frac{{\mathtt{12}}}{{\mathtt{2}}}}\right) = -{\mathtt{7}}$$
5 + 3 x (2 - 12/2) = work inside the parentheses performing the division, first...so we have
5 + 3 x (2 - 6) = simplify inside the parenthesis
5 + 3 x ( -4) = now.....working from left to right, we perform any multiplications/divisions before additions/subtractions....this gives
5 + [-12] = now, just add/subtract
-7
Easy, huh???
