12x  =  5         Multiply both sides of this equation by  32/12 .

32/12 * 12x  =  5 * 32/12

32x   =   40/3

You can set it up as a ratio

12x is to 32 x    as 5 is to ?

Which looks like this:

(12x) / (32 x)   = 5 /?

solve for 'x'

or another easier way    32x is to 12 x    as ? is to 5

   which would look like this:

(32x) / (12x)  =  ?/5       then

32/12 = ?/5     multiply both sides by 5

5(32)/12 = x = 40/3
