if 2x divided by 6 = x what is the value of x ?

We have

2x / 6  = x      multiply both sides by 6

2x = 6x          notice that the only value that solves this is when x = 0

3. you multiply the 6 which gets rid of it on the one side and makes it 6x on the other then divide by 2 which gets the x by itself. and you end up with x=3.
