If 5x-7=13x+17, what is 6(x-4)?

5x-7=13x+17     subtract 5x, 17 from both sides

-24  = 8x            divide by 8 on both sides

-3 = x

 

So  ...  6(x - 4) = 6(-3 - 4)  =  6 (-7)  = -42
