The least amount of wrapping paper needed is the surface area of the cube.

A cube has six square faces, and each face is the same size.  So...

surface area of cube  =  6(area of square face)

And  area of square face  =  (side length)2

surface area of cube  =  6(side length)2

The problem tells us that the cube is 11 cm long, so the  side length  =  11 cm

surface area of cube  =  6( 11 cm )2

surface area of cube  =  6( 121 cm2 )

surface area of cube  =  726 cm2

least amount of wrapping paper needed  =  726 cm2
