Fraction left   (120-35)/120 =  85/120  =85/120 = 17/24

Ithink our guest means Jess ate  3/5 of them   

 

She ate 3/5 so she must have 2/5 left because     3/5+2/5 = 1    That is 1 big pile of 120 jelly beans. :)
