2x - 4 = x^2 - 12x + 36 simplify
x^2 - 14x + 40 = 0
(x - 10) (x - 4) = 0
So possible values of x = 4 or 10
10 is good
4 is extraneous .... the left side of (1) can only be 0 or positive....but 4 makes the right side negative
