if y=4x+41 and y=(x/3)-14, x=???

4x+41=(x/3)-14

multiply both sides by 3 to get rid of the fraction

3[4x+41]= 3 [(x/3)-14]

12x+123=x-42

subtract x from both sides

11x+123=-42

subtract 123 from both sides

11x=-42-123

11x=-165

divide both sides by 11

x=-165/11

x= - 15
