3 pieces, each 31/2 yards long = 3*(3+1/2) = 10.5 yards
and 5 pieces, each 21/4 yards long = 5*(2+1/4) = 11.25 yards
left = 24 - 10.5 - 11.25
24-10.5-11.25 = 2.25
So there will be 2.25 yards left
