In the figure below,  ABCD is a parallelogram,  AD= 18 and DC=54. Segments  EG and  FH are perpendicular to sides of the parallelogram as shown, and EG =18. What is the area of the parallelogram?

That question should look like this:

 

In the figure below, ABCD is a parallelogram, AD = 18 and DC = 27. Segments EG and FH are perpendicular to sides of the parallelogram as shown, and EG = 16. Determine FH.

Area of parallelogram  = DC *  EG =  27 * 16   =  432

 

Also  area =  FH * AD =  FH * BC

 

FH * BC   =432

 

FH * 18  = 432

 

FH = 432  / 18    =  24
