Where did -10 come from?

In the first minute, the diver is 60 feet below the surface. Another minute, the diver is 60 + 60 =120 feet below the surface. Another minute, the diver is: 120 + 60 =180 feet below the surface......and so on.

First minute =60 feet  x 1 minute = 60 feet

2nd minute =60 feet x 2 minutes=120 feet

3rd minute =60 feet x 3 minutes =180 feet

.

.

10th minute =60 feet x 10 minutes =600 feet below the surface. And that is it!.
