3.00x10^8/(7.91x10^10)

You got to think of the Order of Operations. Order of Operations first says to take care of anything inside of parenthesis. In the equation, the only numbers and math signs inside the parenthesis is 7.91x10^10. The first thing you do inside the parenthesis is take care of the exponents, 10^10 which is 10,000,000,000. Next take 10,000,000,000 and multiply 7.91 to it and you get 79,100,000,000. Now the equation looks like 3.00x10^8/79,100,000,000. Next, Order of Operations says to do the multiplication and division in the order they appear, doing the exponents first. In the equation 10^8 its done first. 10^8 is 100,000,000. The equation now looks like 3.00x100,000,000/79,100,000,000. Next multiply 100,000,000 to 3.00 and you get 300,000,000. The equation now looks like 300,000,000/79,100,000,000. Next divide 79,100,000,000 from 300,000,000 and you get 0.0037926675094817 or 3/791. Hope this helps

Great answer gibsonj338

I'd do it like this

3/7.91 * 10 8 * 10 -10

0.379267 * 10 -2

3.79267 * 10 -1 * 10 1-2

3.79267 * 10 -3
or
0.00379267 ( correct to 6 significant figures)

Which is exactly the same answer as gibsonj338 got.
