A stone falls from the top of the rock that has a height of 80m. When it reaches the end, the velocity of the stone is 38ms-1.

a) Calculate the part of the initial potential energy that has been converted to kinetic energy.

Do you know the mass of the stone?:

Kintetic energy at end  = 1/2 m v^2     v = 38 m/s

  initial Potential energy mgh               g = 9.81 m/s^2  h = 80 m

 

Missing energy is likely lost due to air friction
