What is the distance from the right center field fence to third base? Show all of your work and round your answer to the nearest tenth of a foot. http://www.andrewclem.com/Baseball/MemorialColiseum.html
I don't think we need the Law of Sines or Cosines, here
Call home plate point A
Call third base point B
Call the point at the right field fence C
We have a right triangle ABC with angle BAC = 90°
The distance we are looking for is the hypotenuse= BC
AC is one leg = 300
AB is the other leg = 90 ft from home plate to third base
So
BC = √ [ AC^2 + AB^2] = √ [ 300^2 + 90^2] = √ 98100 ≈ 313.2 ft
