Let f(a,b) = 2a - 3b^2 + 7. If f(b,3) = 90, then what is b?

f(a,b) = 2a - 3b^2 + 7. If f(b,3) = 90, then what is b?

So...we're substituting b for a and 3 for b in the function...so we have

2b - 3(3)2 + 7 = 90

2b - 27 + 7 = 90

2b - 20 = 90      add 20 to both sides

2b = 110            divide both sides by 2

b = 55
