Find the equation of the line passing through the points P1(-3,-16) and P2(5,5). Enter your answer in "y = mx + b" form.

Hello Guest!

\(m=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}=\frac{5-(-16)}{5-(-3)}=\frac{21}{8}\)

\(m=2.625\)

\(y=m(x-x_1)+y_1\)

\(y=2.625(x-(-3))+(-16)\\ y=2.625x+7.875-16\)

\(y=2.625x-8.125\)

slope m = (-16-5)/(-3-5) = 21/8

y = 21/8 x + b    sub in either of the points to calc 'b'

5 =  21/8 (5) + b      so b = -65/8

y = 21/8 x -65/8
