Expand out the brackets on either side:

2 - 6x + 10x + 8 = 3 - 4x -1

then simplify both sides by adding up a like terms:

10 + 4x = 2 - 4x

then use algebra to rearrange the equation for x:

8x = -8

divide through by 8:

x=-1
