I'm trying to find the rate of ln(.5) as a percent and it keeps turning up as a negative, not sure what to do.

What you probably want is exactly the opposite of what you are doing:

e^.50 =1.64872127..... - 1 x 100 =64.87%. What this means is that if you compound 50% continuously you will have an EFFECTIVE annual rate of 64.87%.
