If you want to find what is to the power of 2 gives you 8 you use log help you find that! simply when you use a scientific calculator press the log bottom, you get two slots, the first one you put 2 and the second one you put 8 then ENTER. In this example you get 3 as an answer, which means that is you do 2^3 (two to the power of three) you get 8. however log are a bit special and you have to treat them differently when it comes to adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
