Solve for x:
2 log^2(x) = 8

Divide both sides by 2:
log^2(x) = 4

Take the square root of both sides:
log(x) = 2 or log(x) = -2

Cancel logarithms by taking exp of both sides:
x = e^2 or log(x) = -2

Cancel logarithms by taking exp of both sides:
Answer: |  x = e^2 or x = 1/e^2=ln +/- 2
