0.5[r-(-4)]=24

First you simplify it: 0.5 is equivalent to 1/2 and r-(-4) is the same as r+4

1/2(r+4)=24

Multiply both sides by 2 to cancel out the 1/2.

r+4=24*2

Subtract 4 from both sides.

r=(24*2)-4

There you go, I'll let you finish it.

^_^ Hope it helps!

Pardon my interruption @Nobody Special. But, instead of giving out the steps like you've put out there why don't you explain them a little further with more examples to it. By doing one will confuse the brain and make it harder to comprehend. If you want to help I will let you, but I will also guide you for your sake so this way you don't give out any bad advice and could help yourself out with better knowledge. So clarify better examples meaning to. Add more examples rather than one, and explain better so they don't freak out. So instead of simplify, show them how. Understand now what I am trying to say?
