Long Division

The key is to multiply n times something to "match" the first term(s)

              n^3   -  7n^2  + 6n + 4

n + 1   [  n^4  - 6n^3  - n^2 + 10n + 6 ]

              n^4  +1n^3

             _______________________

                       -7n^3  - n^2

                      -7n^3 - 7n^2         

                    _________________

                                  6n^2  + 10n

                                  6n^2  + 6n

                                 ____________

                                              4n  + 6

                                              4n  + 4

                                            ________

                                                      2

The answer is

n^3 - 7n^2 + 6n + 4     remainder  2 / ( x + 1)
