Mary sells boxes of cookies for $4 each.  Henry sells boxes of cookies for $10 each. Each of them sold the same dollar amount. It was the smallest dollar amount for which this was possible.

It is just the least common multiple (LCM) you are looking for!

Let's check 10 first. 10 x 1 = 10. And this isn't divisible by 4 to make a whole number.

So let's check the next one for 10! 10 x 2 = 20. This IS divisible by 4 to make a whole number! 20 / 4 = 5!

So Mary sold 5 boxes of cookies to get to $20 and Henry sold 2 boxes of cookies to get to $20!

$20 is the answer!
