It represents the number of ways you can pick a combination of 50 things from 84 without repetition.That's what the letter c stands for.
(like picking a team of 50 guys -big team I know- from a choice of 84.Obviously you don't pick the same team twice.)
That aside,if you subtract anything from itself,irrespective of what it is,you just get zero.
So 84c50- 84c50 = 0

If I wanted to pick a committee of 4 people from a group of 10,the answer would be 10c4
which is (10x9x8x7) /(4x3x2x1).This makes sure I don't pick the same committee twice.
Why? I get 10 choices for the first person,leaving me with 9 choices for the second person,then 8 choices for the third person and finally 7 choices for the last person. Which is 10x9x8x7. Am I finished at this point? No,because within that number of 10x9x8x7 I will have picked the same committee more than once,but in a different order,for example Fred,Jack,Mary,Joan could be one committee,but I will also have picked Jack,Fred,Mary,Joan Jack Mary Fred Joan etc . IE I need to divide 10x9x8x7 by the number of ways I picked my 4 people. Which is just 4x3x2x1,by the same argument. So the answer is (10x9x8x7) / (4x3x2x1)
