Hello, I have a few questions that I'm struggling on. If you can help, I appreciate it very much, Thanks!
1. What is the value of a? I got 135 because 135+20+25=180.
2. (There is no visual for this one) Triangle ABC is similar to Triangle DEF. The length of BC is 21cm. The length of DE is 10cm. The length of EF is 14cm. What is the length of AB?
And 3. What is the value of x?
a is a length not an angle measure use Pythagorean theorem
sqrt(25^2 - 20^2) = a
#3 if it is a right triangle....again Pythagorean Theorem
2x-1 + 3x = sqrt(9^2 + 15^2)
5x -1 = 17.49
5x = 18.49
x = 3.699
#2 use ratios since they are similar 21 is to 14 as x is to 10
21/14 = x/10 x = 210/14 = 15= AB
3 is based on Euclid's Elements...a bisected apex angle proportions the sides of the triangle thusly :
[2x - 1] / 9 = 3x / 15 cross-multiply
15 [2x - 1 ] = 9 * 3x
30x - 15 = 27x
3x = 15
x = 5
A-h-h-h-h THAT's what those little arcs symbolize ! Learned something today ! Thanx Chris....
