Find all values for which the rational expression is underfined.
(4x+2) / (x^2-3x+2)
Select the correct choice below and,if neccessary, fill in the answer box to complete your choice.
a. The number(S) for which the rational expression is underfined is/are ____.
b. There are novalues for which the expression is underfined.
Thank You :)
(4x+2) / (x^2-3x+2)
\(=\frac{(4x+2) }{ (x^2-3x+2)}\\ =\frac{2(2x+1) }{ (x-1)(x-2)}\\ \mbox{You cannot divide by zero so } \\ x-1\ne0\qquad and \qquad x-2\ne 0\\ x\ne1\qquad\qquad and \qquad x\ne 2\\\)
a. The number(S) for which the rational expression is underfined is/are x=1 and x=2
Perhaps you can try to do the other ones yourself :)
This will be undefined when the denominator = 0
That is, when
x^2 -3x + 2 = 0
factor
(x - 2) ( x - 1) = 0
And setting each factor to 0, x = 2 and x = 1
And these are the values that make the rational function undefined.
(4x+2) / (x^2-3x+2)
\(=\frac{(4x+2) }{ (x^2-3x+2)}\\ =\frac{2(2x+1) }{ (x-1)(x-2)}\\ \mbox{You cannot divide by zero so } \\ x-1\ne0\qquad and \qquad x-2\ne 0\\ x\ne1\qquad\qquad and \qquad x\ne 2\\\)

Hi Chris, I thought that you sere doing another post. Did you change your mind?
