A roof has a cross section that is a right triangle. The diagram shows the approximate dimensions of this cross section. Find the height h of the roof. Round your answer to the nearest tenth.

The area of  this right triangle =  (1/2)(product of the legs)  = (1/2) (20)(13)  =  130 ft^2

 

So.....using this

 

Area  also equals  (1/2) base * height

 

130  = (1/2) (23.9) (height)      multiply both sides by 2   and divide both sides by 23.9

 

260 / 23.9 =  height ≈  10.9 ft
