Let the number of hours flying downwind==H

18H ==Distance travelled downwind.

[18H - 5] / 15 ==18H/18

H == 5/3 - hours spent flying downwind

[18*5/3 - 5] / 15 + 5/15==2 - hours spent flying back to its nest.

Total distance==[5/3 * 18] * 2 ==60 miles.

5/3 + 2 == 11 / 3 ==3 hours + 40 minutes - total time spent flying back and forth.
