Hello Guest!

anybody got a clue what x is: {nl} x^2+20x-150=0

{nl} x² + 20x - 150 = 0

p = 20

q = - 150

x1,2 = - p/2 ±√(p²/4 - q)

x1,2 = - 10 ±√(100 - (-150))

x1,2 =  -10 ±√250

x1 = 5.811

x2 = - 25.811

Solve for x:
x^2+20 x-150=0

Add 150 to both sides:
x^2+20 x=150

Add 100 to both sides:
x^2+20 x+100=250

Write the left hand side as a square:
(x+10)^2=250

Take the square root of both sides:
x+10=5 sqrt(10) or x+10=-5 sqrt(10)

Subtract 10 from both sides:
x=5 sqrt(10)-10 or x+10=-5 sqrt(10)

Subtract 10 from both sides:
Answer: |  x=5 sqrt(10)-10        or          x=-10-5 sqrt(10)
