1.     The line segment graphed on the coordinate plane represents a roof with several triangular supports. Each support is triangular, with a horizontal board that starts on the edge of the roof and connects with a vertical board that ends on the edge of the roof as shown.

(a)   Does each support have the same starting coordinates? Explain.

(b)   Does each support have the same ending coordinates? Explain.

(c)   Does each support have the same change in x-values? Explain.

(d)   Does each support have the same change in y-values? Explain.

(e)   Does each support have the same ratio of change in y-values over change in x-values? Explain.

a) No, clearly the starting points are different for each support: (0,0) is not ((2,1), etc.

b) No, similar to a) answer: (2,1) is not (6,3) etc

c) No, 2 does not equal 4, etc.

d) No, 1 does not equal 2, etc.

e) Yes, this is just the slope of the diagonal line: 1/2 = 2/4
