(x^3-x^2-17x-15) divided (x-5)

Peerforming some polynomial long division, we have

             x^2 + 4x + 3 

x - 5   [  x^3 - x^2 - 17x  - 15 ]

             x^3 - 5x^2

                      4x^2  - 17x

                      4x^2 -  20x

                      ____________

                                3x  - 15

                                3x  - 15

Note that the resultant polynomial,  x^2 + 4x + 3, will factor as  (x + 3) (x + 1)
