3+7x-(2+9x)

 

=3+7x     -1*(2+9x)

 

=3+7x     -2-9x

 

= 3-2   +7x-9x

 

= 1 - 2x

There are brackets in the question.

 

When there is a minus sign in front of a bracket people often make mistakes

 

for instance

 

6-(2+3) = 6-5 = 1

 

or to put it another way

6-(2+3) = 6-2-3 = 1           IT IS NOT       6-2+3 !!

this is the same as

6-1(2+3)
