 A tap took 12 minutes to fill up a tank with a capacity of 8 litres . At the same rate , how long would it take to fill up 60% of another tank with a capacity of 20 litres ?

Sorry, I messed up the last line. It should be:

12/(2/3)=12 X 3/2=36/2=18 minutes to fill the 2nd,tank.

8/12=2/3 litres per minute, flow rate

60% of 20 litres=12 litres

2/3 X 12=24/3=8 minutes that would fill 60% of 20 litre tank.

20L x .60% = 12L    so we have

12min / 8L  =  x min / 12  L      where x is the number of minutes we're looking for

cross multiply

12 * 12 =  8x

144 = 8x     divide both sides by 8

144/8 = x = 18 min

cool cool cool
