The yard care staff can mow 45 lawns in a 10-hour work day. Each of the 9 workers can mow the same number of lawns per hour. How many lawns can one worker mow per hour?

What you have :  # lawns      Hours     #workers

you want:  # Lawns/(#Worker x hours)

So Just substitute in the values given:

45/(9 x 10)  =   1/2  Lawn per worker per hour

Thanks for that answer, Guest....here's another way to see this.......if the crew can mow 45 lawns in 10 hours, each hour they must mow 1/10 of this =  4.5 lawns

So........

4.5 lawns per hour :  9 workers  =  [ 1/2 ] lawn per hour : 1 worker

cool cool cool
