If one guy has x apples, and a girl has 2 more than that guy, and another girl has three times as much as the first guy. How many do they have each, if they have 32 apples altogether.
think of the people in order labled as a-c
so the guy is a
the 1st girl is b
the second girl is c
based off of the problem, we know a=a , b=2a, and c=3a. Then we need to find out how a+b+c=32
the answer is 5.33333333 apples.
The guy has x apples.
The girl has 2 more than that guy; she has x + 2 apples.
Another girl has three times as many as the guy; she has 3x apples
Since they have 32 apples (total):
(x) + (x + 2) + (3x) = 32
x + x + 2 + 3x = 32
5x + 2 = 32
5x = 30
x = 6
Guy has 6 apples.
First girl has 6 + 2 = 8 apples.
Othr girl has 3(6) = 18 apples.
