A landscaper has enough cement to make a rectangular patio with an area of 150 square feet. The homeowner wants the length to be 6 feet longer the width. What should the dimensions of the patio be? Round to the nearest tenth of a foot.

 

Let the width be =W

The length =W + 6

W x [W + 6] =150

W^2 + 6W =150, solve for W

W=9.6 feet-the width of the patio

9.6 + 6 =15.6 feet-the length of the patio.
