-3x(2x 2-5x+4)
will become
= -3x*2x 2 -3x*-5x -3x*4
that is
= [-3x*2x 2] + [-3x*-5x] + [-3x*4]

I am assuming the main confusion is the minus signs. There are many different, yet correct, ways to think about the minus signs.
This is not quite the way I would ususally do it but I thought it might be easier to understand this way.
A +- together makes a minus, so the fact that i have added extra plus signs just doesn't matter.
After you simplify all the terms inside the square brackets then you can simply remove the brackets. They all have plus signs in front of them so it won't really change anything.
