Well, you can't get a number value for y because there is an x in the equation. You can however make y the subject.

To do this you could expand the brackets on both sides then get rid of things on the left, (always remembering that whatever you do to one side you must do to the other side as well ) until the only thing left on the left is y
OR
you could just look at the equation
Everything is the same, the 2, the 3, the brackets, the +signs, the ONLY thing that is different is that one has an x and one has a y.
therefore
y must equal x.
