lexyyyyy: what is the width of a rectangular prism that is 12 inches high,27 inches long and has a surface area of 1194 square inches? What is the formula
Ok,
You'll have to create a formula.
I'm supposing that you know how to calculate an area of a planar surface, right? high * long = area
To calculate an area of a complete prism, you need have to addition every surface.
(2(12 * 27)) + (2(X * 27)) + (2(X * 12)) = 1194in
2 12*27 + x*27 + x*12 =
1194in 2/2
27x + 12x = 597in
2 - 324in
2 39x = 273in
2 x = ??
At this point, you should be able to complete the equation.
NOTE: YOU WILL HAVE A MESURE AND NOT A AREA BECAUSE YOU DIVIDE BY A DIMENSION THAT IS IN INCHES. SO YOU LOOSE THE SQUARE.
