+129840 If there were an equal number of boys and girls born........there would have been 32 [16 boys, 16 girls]
But........10 more girls tnan boys were born [10 more than half] = 16 + 10 = 26
So....altogether, 16 + 26 = 42 babies were born

Call the total number born = x
Then, ten more than 1/2 = (1/2)x + 10 = the number of girls born .....so we have
(1/2)x + 10 + 16 = x simplify
(1/2)x + 26 = x subtract (1/2)x from both sides
26 = (1/2)x multiply both sides by by 2
52 = x = the total born
This makes more sense than my previous answer.........
1/2 (52) = 26........and 10 more than that = 36.....so 36 girls were born and 16 boys were born.......
