Michelle ordered two large pizzas. Each pizza was cut into eight slices of equal size. She gave 1/2 of the pizza to Chris, 3/8 of a pizza to John, and 1/4 of a pizza to Sally. How many slices of pizza were left?

Well first you want to get the denominators to be matching

so 1/2 = 4/8 and 1/4 = 2/8.

Then add them together (Make the denominator 16 since there is two pizzas)

4/16 + 2/16 + 3/16 =  9/16

To find the remaining

16/16 - 9/16 = 7/16

Simplify if possible, but you can't in this problem.

So the answer is 7/16 slices are left

Your percentages don't add up right: 1/2 + 3/8 +1/4=1 1/8 is wrong. They must be equal to or less than 1.

FIrst turn all the fractions into 8ths   (this is assuming she gave 1/2 of A pizza to Chris)

1/2 =4 / 8  to Chris

3/8            to John

1/4 = 2 /8  to Sally

2 pizzas =  16/8 pizzas

SO the question says she gave away  4/8  + 3/8  +  2/8 = 9/8ths of the pizza

16/8 - 9/8 = 7/8 of a pizza left (seven slices)

IF she gave 1/2 of THE (two) pizzas to Chris she is left with one pizza (8 slices)

then she gives 3/8 to John      she now has  5/8 pizza left (5 slices)

then she gives 2/8ths to Sally   so she is left with 3/8th pizza (3 slices)

The wording of the pizza she gave to Chris is a little unclear.

WRITE AN IMPROPER FRACTION AS A MIXED NUMBER/CONVERT THE 2 THINGS.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     31/5 well u will need to divide 31 divided  by 5  5 goes into 3 zero times five goes into 31 6 times which would be 30      31-30=1  so it is 6 1/5 that is how u convert a improper fraction.
