We  have a right triangle  with legs of   10  and 24

 

To find the remaining side  ( the side opposite the right angle = the hypotenuse )  we  have that

 

hypotenuse  =  √  [ ( leg 1) ^2   + ( leg 2) ^2 ]  = √ [10^2 + 24^2 ] = √ [100 + 576 ]  =

 

√ [ 676 ]  =

For example, in this case,

 

10^2+24^2=c^2, and if you square root c^2, you will get the third side length.

A is one leg of the triangle while B is the other leg(order does not matter). C is the hypotenuse also known as the diagonal. A squared + B squared is equal to C squared.
