P is 1/6 of the distance between X and Y

We can find the point as follows :

[  (1/6)(6 - - 6)  + -6 ,  (1/6)( 7 - -2) + -2 ]

[  (1/6)(12) - 6, (9/6) - 2 ]  =

[ -4, - 1/2 ]  = P

Proof...

Distance between X and P   (-6, -2) and (-4, -1/2)  =  2.5

Distance between P and Y  (-4, -1/2)  and  ( 6,7)  = 12.5

And   XP : PY  =  2.5 : 12.5  =  1 : 5
