16/80=x/100

 

Let's make the problem a little bit smaller.

 

Let's divie both the top and bottom of 16/80 by 8. 

 

2/10=x/100

 

10 times what is 100? 10. 

 

20/100=x/100

 

Multiply by 100 on both sides and you get 20=x

 

That gives you the percent of dogs that are golden retrievers.

 

Therefore, 20% of the dogs are golden retrievers.
