2(4u-5)=70

2(4u)=70-5

2*(4u)=65

(4u)=65/2

4u=32.5

32.5/4=8.125

u=8.125

EDIT: OVER IS WRONG HERE IS CORRECT:

 

2(4u-5)=70

8u-10=70

8u=70+10

8u=80

80/8=10

u=10

Nice catch, a simple mistake but remember that parenthesis are impenetrable unless left alone as a term.

Ah... simple algebra, a time I wish I could return to.

 

 

What you want to do first, is distribute that 2 into 4u-5 and get...

 

8u - 10 = 70

 

 

Add ten to both sides:

 

8u = 80

 

 

Divide 8 on both sides:

 

u = 10
